| Guide to Abri de Cap Blanc (The Cave of Cap Blanc) Unique sculptures in a cave dating back 15,000 years
Discovered in 1909 by a team of potholers, the Cave of Cap Blanc contains a unique collection of friezes sculptured in the cave walls. As in Lascaux, Cro-Magnon man had often painted or engraved walls, but here life size forms of horses and bison make the site totally unique, and as a result it has been classified by UNESCO and entered on the list of Human World Heritage sites. "The head, neck and back are a perfect
examples to put even modern sculptors to admiration." Since 1995 the site has been developed to welcome visitors. Several areas have been created around the authentic sculptured walls:
The site is located 6kms from the town of
Les Eyzies and is accessible for disabled guests who are accompanied.
